India’s Test specialist Hanuma Vihari, is back ‘home’ after five seasons for the upcoming domestic cricket tournament in India. The right hand batsman and occasional right-arm off-break bowler had left Hyderabad to play for Andhra Pradesh in the 2015-16 season after the former chairman of selectors MSK Prasad offered him Andhra captaincy and who also pushed his selection in the traditional format as well.
Vihari, who started his career and represented Hyderabad from his debut in 2010-11 season, wrote in a small note, which he shared on his official Twitter handle. “I am taking this opportunity to inform everyone that I am parting ways with Andhra cricket association on good terms. I’ve had the privilege to captain and represent Andhra for the past 5 years.” “I will be a part of Hyderabad cricket association from the coming season,” announced Vihari himself. Vihari expressed pride at how the team had shaped him during the last five years and thanked the association office-bearers for their never-ending support.
The Indian International Cricketer has a record of playing 93 First-Class games, 12 test matches, 74 ODIs and 74 T20s till date. He also played 80 List A games in which he has 3001 runs. He made his Test debut against England at The Oval in 2018. The middle order batsman, who has played 12 Tests for India, made his international debut in 2018 against England at The Oval. Vihari turned out to be one of the heroes in the Sydney Test of 2020-21 Australia tour with his power-packed batting performance that helped the team earn a draw which at one point looked very unlikely.
With former Indian skipper Azharuddin being the president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and Vihari once again donning the Hyderabad jersey after 5 seasons, it will be interesting to see whether he will be able to lead Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy for the upcoming season or not!
