Vipraj Nigam sexual assault case resurfaces during Asian Games 2026 — What is the allegation?

Vipraj Nigam, who could make his debut for the Indian side against Japan during the one-off historic T20I, has been accused of sexual assault under the pretext of marriage and of physical abuse allegedly happening at the Noida hostel in July 2025, as the reports have claimed.  

Nigam’s last action came for the India A side during the unofficial ODI tri-series against Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A, as all the games were played in Dambulla. Nigam batted well in the middle overs and towards the end and also contributed regular wickets with the ball.

The sexual assault allegation against Vipraj Nigam: What the complaint says and what he denies

Vipraj is accused in a case of sexual assault under the pretext of physical abuse and marriage, which happened at the Noida hotel in July 2025. The Jagran has claimed that the alleged victim of the case, the Hyderabad-based woman, sat outside the house of Nigam for hours on September 20, saying that she wanted to meet the player, who has been in Japan.

The player’s father has spoken to the woman over the phone and gave full assurance that they would talk after a week. The woman said that she didn’t want to cause a problem and only wanted to speak to the player, who got his international call-up as a replacement for the injured spinner and will be part of the Asian Games 2026.

Both Nigam and the lady had filed cases against each other. On November 8, 2025, he proposed a complaint at the Barabanki Kotwali against the woman and felt that she had been calling him from different mobiles and threatened to put up a false case.

The woman lodged a complaint at the Expressway Police Station in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Both met each other through social media platforms in May 2025, and she informed that Nigam lured her with a marriage promise.

India's Vipraj has overall smashed 157 runs in 10 innings of his IPL career at a strike rate of 176.40, out of which 142 runs came during the 2025 season at a strike rate of 179.74. He has also bagged 13 wickets with the ball in the competition's history. 

Nigam came into the Shreyas Iyer-led side as the replacement for Varun Chakravarthy, who was injured after the opening T20I of the three-match series against Afghanistan, which was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
