With just a couple of weeks left before the start of the three official ODI series for India A against South Africa A, discussions have started about whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two former captains, would feature in the games in Rajkot on November 13, 16, and 19- all-day/night fixtures. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to reveal the squad in a day or two.

Virat Kohli and Rohit didn’t feature in the last ODI series for India A against Australia A at home ahead of their trip down under. Rohit found good rhythm in that away series with a half-century in the second game at Adelaide before smashing a fine century at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Meanwhile, Kohli, after two successive ducks, registered a fine unbeaten fifty at the SCG.

Currently, India A side is involved in a two-match red-ball series against the A-side of the Proteas at the CoE in Bengaluru. The Rishabh Pant-led side won the opening four-day clash, with the second game starting on November 06.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma unlikely to feature for India A against South Africa in unofficial ODI series

The Indian selectors are expected to meet soon to declare the squad for the two-Test series against the Temba Bavuma-led side. They can also pick the India A squad at the same meeting. For the red-ball team, there are unlikely to be any changes from the squad that featured recently against the West Indies at home, apart from Pant replacing Narayan Jagadeesan in the squad.

Kohli, who turned 37 on November 05, is spending time in London, while Rohit, who enjoyed a memorable evening on November 02 during the Women’s World Cup 2025 final at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, is also enjoying the break. They are expected to be back for the home ODI series against the Proteas.

Before the ODI series, the focus will be on the two-match Test series, part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27, with the opening game taking place on November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata before they move to the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on November 22.
