Both the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) locked horns with each other during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, having come off respective defeats and needed to pick themselves up with victories heading into the middle half of the competition.

Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first on a surface that was flat with dew expected to come later in the evening. Bengaluru needed a strong start from their opening pair of Virat Kohli and Philip Salt inside the powerplay.

Salt, who was bounced out on the very first ball of the innings in their previous contest against the firing Jofra Archer, was eager to get off the mark. The right-handed batter pushed the very first delivery of the innings in front of the mid-on region for a single to bring Kohli on strike.

The Delhi-born survived a leg before the stumps shout from Trent Boult as the ball swung and nipped back to hit on the thigh pad of the batter. The New Zealand pacer tried the same delivery again. This time, Kohli was prepared as he leaned across and whipped it over the square leg region for the first six of the evening.

He welcomed Boult with another four in the third over of the innings. It was another pitched-up delivery as the veteran made room, came down the surface, and lifted it effortlessly over the mid-off region as the ball bounced right in front of the ropes.

RCB makes solid start against MI inside powerplay

RCB made two changes to their playing eleven for the contest as they brought back Suyash Sharma and Jacob Duffy into the playing eleven in place of Abhinandan Singh and Josh Hazlewood. Suyash didn’t get the chance to be part of the last contest as the management decided to bring Venkatesh Iyer as the impact player.

MI, on the other hand, was boosted with the return of Mitchell Santner. The home side wasn’t clinical with their line and length, and they were put into the stands by the visiting side, who didn't loss a single wicket in the powerplay.

Brief Scores: (at the time of writing): RCB- 68/0 (P Salt 46*, V Kohli 21*) vs MI
