After a disappointing return to international cricket, Virat Kohli spent extra time in the nets on Tuesday, working hard ahead of the second ODI against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. The Indian star looked focused and determined as he practiced some of his trademark shots during Team India’s training session at the venue that has always brought out his best performances.

In a video shared by SACA News, the official ‘X’ handle of the South Australia Cricket Association (SACA), Kohli was seen playing confident back-foot punches and  elegant cover drives and finishing the session with his classic pull shot. The batting legend is eager to bounce back after being dismissed for a duck in the opening ODI in Perth, his first international innings since leading India to the Champions Trophy title on March 9.

Kohli will now look to make amends at one of his favorite venues, the Adelaide Oval. Across formats, he has scored 975 runs in 12 matches at this ground, averaging 65, with five centuries and four fifties to his name. No other venue has seen him score as many runs or centuries, making Adelaide his most successful hunting ground outside India.

Kohli’s Adelaide Memories and Historic Knocks

Kohli's deep-rooted affection for Adelaide took shape in 2012 when he got his first Test century against a strong Australian lineup of Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus, and Peter Siddle. He was the only Indian batter to surpass the mark of 300 runs in the series, even with legends Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Virender Sehwag in the team. His love for the venue deepened in the 2014 Test series when he made twin hundreds (115 and 141) in the same match while leading India for the first time in place of MS Dhoni.

Kohli’s magic continued in limited-overs cricket too. In January 2019, he hit a brilliant 104 off 112 balls at Adelaide, helping India win the ODI series against Australia. So far in 2025, Kohli has scored 275 runs in eight innings, with one century and two fifties. After India’s loss in Perth, the team will be hoping for another classic Kohli innings at his beloved Adelaide Oval, a ground where he has time and again reminded the world why he is one of the greatest batters of this generation.
