India’s star cricketer Rinku Singh is going through a period of deep grief during the T20 World Cup 2026. Today, Rinku’s father, Khanchand Singh, passed away, who was battling with stage-4 liver cancer. He had been hospitalized for several days and died at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. Rinku came home to visit his father on Tuesday. After the match against South Africa, he flew straight to Chennai from Ahmedabad, but his father's health deteriorated, forcing him to return home. The family is in shock due to the sudden demise of their father and is returning to their residence.

Rinku Singh's father has been fighting cancer for the past year. Despite having been treated for a while, he was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Noida after complaining of stomach pain. Khanchand Singh had been on ventilator support and undergoing kidney replacement therapy for the past two or three days while being treated by the staff. On Friday morning, he passed away.

Rinku Singh's father had a significant impact on his son's cricket career. He worked tirelessly to fulfill his son's dream. Khanchand struggled to make ends meet, but he persevered when Rinku was working hard to become a cricketer. His biggest dream was to see his son return home with the 2026 T20 World Cup trophy. Before the World Cup, he had even urged Rinku to win the trophy. However, Rinku's father has passed away. His sudden demise has saddened the entire cricketing world. Virat Kohli has also expressed his condolences at this time of grief.

Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt message for Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh has lost his strongest support system today, but the entire nation stands by him. Former Indian captain and legendary batter Virat Kohli also conveyed his condolences and encouraged him to stay strong during this difficult time.

"Deeply saddened by the news of Rinku’s father’s demise. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you always find strength in his eternal blessings. Om Shanti. @rinkusingh235," Virat Kohli wrote on X.

BCCI has also expressed grief over the demise of Rinku Singh's father. Secretary Devjit Saikia conveyed the board's condolences and also informed that Rinku will not be joining Team India for the departure to Kolkata this afternoon. In such a situation, Rinku is unlikely to be available for the Super-8 match against West Indies on March 1.
