With the IPL 2025 season heading towards a nail-biting conclusion, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are only one victory away from booking a playoff spot. With three remaining league matches, RCB are only one win away from sealing the top-four spot. The anticipation is gathering pace among supporters, and none more than RCB icon AB de Villiers.
Piloted by Rajat Patidar, the Bangalore-based franchisee has discovered red-hot form at the right moment. Their next game against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium offers the ideal chance to seal their playoff spot and keep alive their hopes of a first-ever IPL title.
Adding fuel to the fire, AB de Villiers gave a poignant statement during an Instagram Live session this week. "Mark my words, if RCB reaches the final, I will be there in the stadium with the boys. There is nothing that would give me more joy than to raise that trophy with Virat Kohli. I have attempted that for many, many years," was what the old South African skipper said.

De Villiers played for RCB between 2011 and 2021 and was a member of one of the most powerful batting lineups in IPL history alongside Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle. Though they lit their fireworks with the bat, an IPL title always remained out of reach, something de Villiers is still hoping to bridge by being available if RCB make their late run this year. The IPL 2025 playoff starts on May 29, with the final set for June 3. While the venues are yet to be decided, de Villiers' intention to attend is already capturing hearts.

During his 13-year IPL stint, de Villiers scored 5162 runs from 184 matches at an average of 39.70 and a strike rate of 151.68. He registered three centuries and 40 half-centuries. His association with Kohli is the most fruitful in IPL history, with the two compiling 3123 runs from 76 innings, including ten 100-run partnerships. RCB currently stands second on the points table with fixtures against KKR, SunRisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants coming up. In case they reach the final, de Villiers would be there hoping to win a moment he has longed for years.
