The aggressive left-handed opening batter of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Abhishek Sharma, won hearts by handing his award to his father after the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Abhishek’s father, who was celebrating the game sitting in the stands along with the rest of the family, was in tears by the time his son came to him and handed over the match award as the video went viral around the social media platforms.

The story behind Abhishek Sharma’s award gesture that left everyone emotional

In the past, Abhishek Sharma’s father has revealed how he would sit in the stadium and watch every single delivery his son would play. It has always been a blessing for anyone when they get so much support from their family. Watch the video here:

Raj Kumar Sharma has always been his biggest pillar of support, which transitions from a competitive cricketer who couldn’t afford his own cricketing gear to a dedicated coach and constant mentor. At the under-12 level of his career, it was his father, who coached him and even used to make him practice against the 150 kmph bowlers in his teens to build his fearless power hitting.

And when Abhishek came and handed the award to his father, the latter broke down in tears. They also took a group picture as focus now shifts to the knockout clash for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

56 off 22 balls, 254 strike rate, two awards in one night—Is Abhishek Sharma now SRH’s most dangerous batter in IPL 2026?

The left-handed opening batter, despite going through a poor T20 World Cup 2026 at home, has found his mojo back in the IPL 2026. He is currently the sixth leading run-getter of the campaign with 563 runs in just 14 innings at an average of 43.30 and a blistering strike rate of 206.22, thanks to four half-centuries and one century at the best score of unbeaten 135 runs. And he has won two awards in this event.

During the vital clash where Hyderabad had a chance to end the league stage among the top two, the Punjab-born played a sensational knock. Abhishek thumped 56 runs in just 22 balls at a strike rate of 254.55, shouldering on four boundaries and five sixes.

The Indian opener has now crossed the 400-run mark in four of the last five editions in the tournament.

SRH are in—but the eliminator has no safety net: What Abhishek’s form means for Hyderabad’s title chances

Hyderabad, who finished the league stage of the IPL 2026 at the third position of the points table, has earned nine victories in 14 clashes at a net run rate of +0.524. Out of the last 10 encounters, they faced only two defeats, and this confidence will be a massive boost for them in the Eliminator on May 27 in New Chandigarh.

Abhishek’s contribution at the opening spot will be crucial for the 2016 champions. Moreover, they will hope to see Ishan Kishan continuing the same approach after putting 569 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 178.39.

Heinrich Klaasen is also a vital member for them, having gathered 606 runs in 14 innings at a blistering strike rate of 159.47. They need their powerful batting line-up to counter if they hope to end the wait of 10 years to win their second IPL title.
