Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were seen sharing a light moment during a rain break in the India vs Australia 1st ODI 2025 at the Optus Stadium, Perth, on Sunday, October 19. Before the interruption, both batters had been dismissed early by Australia’s fast bowlers, putting India under pressure right from the start.

Rain stopped play for more than 30 minutes, marking the second delay of the match. During the break, cameras captured Rohit and Gill enjoying popcorn while watching the rain from the glass pavilion. Their casual moment became a topic on social media, providing some entertainment and calm during what had been a challenging start for Team India.

At the time of the rain delay, India were 37/3 in 11.5 overs, with Shreyas Iyer (6)* and Axar Patel (7)* trying to steady the innings. Rohit Sharma had scored 8 runs before edging a delivery from Josh Hazlewood to Matt Renshaw at second slip. The early wickets gave Australia full control on a pitch that offered bounce and swing for the fast bowlers.

India’s troubles deepened when Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck by Mitchell Starc, caught by Cooper Connolly at backward point. Soon after, Nathan Ellis made an instant impact, dismissing Shubman Gill (10 off 18) with his very first ball. Gill got a faint inside edge, and wicketkeeper Josh Philippe completed an easy catch.

With India at 37/3, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel now have to piece the innings together. Australia's quicks, Starc, Hazlewood, and Ellis, have utilized the Perth conditions exceptionally well and have made the most of the rain and the wind to keep India’s batters at bay.
