The former Indian World Cup-winning captain, MS Dhoni, has always been a fit sportsperson. During his time on the national side, he was one of the fittest batters. In the past, he reflected on the importance of fitness and how he would always try to maintain the highest level of fitness even if he didn’t perform well with the bat or the wicket-keeping gloves.

The Ranchi-born reckoned that in the modern era, the fitness of the Indian players had gone down because of their lack of physical activity. He also gave an example of how, for his daughter, they would need to plan various physical activities to stay fit in the future. Dhoni stated that the current Indians were not engaged in the sport anymore.

‘I think, nowadays, the age is coming down, which is in the sense that the amount of physical activities is coming down. So, the average fitness level of us, the Indians, has gone down. Even for my daughter, and I feel, she doesn’t do many physical activities, because she is not in sports, so we have to plan various activities, you know, but that’s how it has been that a lot of people don’t play any sport.Dhoni said during a recent function in Ranchi.

Even at the age of 44, Dhoni has been a regular member of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai Super Kings. Just like every single season, there has always been a discussion on whether he would feature in the next IPL. And it will keep happening before the IPL 2026.

The wicket-keeper, recently, led the franchise when Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the season due to injury. The right-handed batter has smashed 5439 runs in 242 innings at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of nearly 137, shouldering 24 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 84 runs against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Dhoni finished his international career as the sixth leading run-getter for India. He nailed 17092 runs in 523 innings at an average of 44.74 and a strike rate of just under 80, with the help of 15 centuries and 108 half-centuries at the best score of 224 against Australia.
