It has been a peculiar situation for India’s captain, Ayush Mhatre, who, despite cracking the T20 and FC format for Mumbai, hasn’t done well in the U19 World Cup with a few scores, before the right-handed opening batter got a strong knock in the semifinal and channeled it with another good knock in the final against England in Harare.

Ayush Mhatre arrived in the crease and took eight balls to open his account before smashing two successive boundaries and a six against Manny Lumsden. It was a short length delivery as Mhatre waited for that and got into his position to nail the pull over the deep mid-wicket region in the eighth over of the innings.

Mahtre smashed the same bowler for two consecutive fours in the 10th over of the innings. He later went forward and drilled the lofted drive back at the bowler for a massive six to complete a half-century. On the very next delivery, he was dismissed for 53 runs in 51 balls at a strike rate of over 100, with the help of seven boundaries and a couple of sixes.

India lost their opening batter and centurion, Aaron George, early in the final for nine runs in 11 balls, while Suryavanshi dominated the opposition with his sheer class and power as he kept nailing the runs at a strike rate of over 200. He celebrated his 150 in just 72 balls individually.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is the sixth batter, and third Indian batter, to register a hundred in a U-19 World Cup Final. He & Ayush Mhatre added 142 runs in 90 balls for the second wicket, at a run rate of 9.46. This is now the second-fastest partnership for any wicket in a knockout fixture of the U-19 World Cup.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is the eighth Indian batter to register a fifty-plus score in a U-19 World Cup Final. He has hit the most sixes in the U-19 World Cup 2026. That's the most sixes hit by an individual batter in a single edition of the U-19 World Cup. South Africa's Dewald Brevis held the record earlier with 18 sixes in the U-19 World Cup 2022.

Brief Scores: Ind U19 240/2 (Vaibhav Suryavanshi 165*, Ayush Mhatre 53, Alex Green 2/49) vs England U19
