He said many skilled cricketers often turn toward golf after ending their playing careers, showing a natural connection between the two sports.
During the programme, Jay Shah and legendary World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev unveiled the trophy of the new golf league, named “72 The League.” Shah also recalled a conversation with Kapil Dev, saying that Kapil once requested higher salaries for Ranji Trophy players. Shah mentioned that he had fulfilled the promise by increasing the pay structure significantly, allowing first-class domestic players to earn between ₹50 lakh and ₹1 crore annually.
Speaking further, Shah expressed confidence about the commercial and sporting potential of golf in India. He added that he understands sports marketing well and promised support for cricket and the International Cricket Council as well as the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The event was viewed as an important step toward promoting golf and encouraging young athletes to participate in professional tournaments.

Jay Shah and Kapil Dev Promote Growth of Golf in India
Jay Shah and World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev unveiled the trophy of the new golf league, “72 The League,” at a grand event in Delhi. Speaking at the ceremony, Shah highlighted the development of domestic cricket and sports infrastructure.
Shah shared a conversation with Kapil Dev and said, “Kapil paaji once asked me to double the salary of Ranji players. I promised him that I would increase it, and I have increased it ten times. Today, a Ranji Trophy player can earn between ₹50 lakh and ₹1 crore in a year.” He added, “The future of golf is very bright. Good cricketers often become good golfers after retirement. I understand sports marketing well. Paaji, whether it is ICC or BCCI, I will extend all possible help.”
The haryana hurricane also spoke about the initiative and said, “We must thank him because he is not only promoting Indian cricket but also helping other sports grow.” He added, “The media promotes cricket, but other sports should also get attention. I hope Jay Shah will focus on golf and other sports along with cricket.”
