Just like the evening session of the third day of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s, there was a different entertaining session on the fourth evening. This time, quite funnily, it was England’s turn to put the pressure on the Indian openers. KL Rahul, this time the new opener, was trying his best to survive the final evening as they looked for the successful fourth-innings chase.

Ben Duckett was on the non-striker's end when Zak Crawley, amidst his average of under 31 in more than 50 Tests and 2500 runs, was trying his best to see off the single over of Jasprit Bumrah. Now, on the fourth evening, Duckett started to go after Rahul when Akash Deep began to take time in medical treatment.

England and their captain, Ben Stokes, were right on the face of the Indian batters, who tried their best to get into the fifth day. The pitch started to look incredibly tough for the batter with the uneven bounce. On multiple occasions, some deliveries were bouncing off the shoulder, while a few balls were nailing into the knees and heels.

England started the day on a negative note, losing four wickets in the morning session. First, it was Ben Duckett, who couldn’t time the pull shot against Mohammed Siraj, while Zak Crawley found the gully fielder, having driven away from the body. Harry Brook’s wrong sweep shot saw the ball crashing into the stumps, Ollie Pope was hit on the pads, and a successful review sent the number three batter back to the hut.

Later, Joe Root and Stokes put up a half-century stand for the fifth wicket. But another brain fade sweep saw Root getting out of Brook’s way. Then it was only Washington Sundar, who went past Jamie Smith’s defense with a straight ball. Jasprit Bumrah went through the defense of the bowlers as they got bundled out for 192 runs.

Rahul remained unbeaten for 33 runs in 47 balls. Shubman Gill couldn’t repeat his dominance and went back to the dressing room for six runs as they found themselves struggling at 58/4 at the end of the fourth day.
