Indiastarted their campaign of 2026 with a strong and clinical victory during the opening ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. A video from the 301-run chase went viral, featuring Shreyas Iyer’s massive six, which was accompanied by the Bhojpuri commentary. The video quickly gained popularity on social media platforms.
In the first innings, New Zealand posted a strong score of 300 runs in their allotted 50 overs for the loss of eight wickets. It happened on the back of the 117-run opening partnership between Devon Conway and Henry Nicholas, both of whom celebrated their respective half-centuries.

Conway clubbed 56 runs, while Nicholas drilled 62 runs before Daryl Mitchell provided them with the flurry of boundaries towards the end to nail 84 runs in 71 balls at a strike rate of 118.31, thanks to five boundaries and three sixes. However, India used the pace variations well to keep the visitors to 300.
Shreyas Iyer's six with Bhojpuri commentary goes viral
India was stuck early in the chase as Rohit Sharma, the premium opening batter, returned to the pavilion for 26 runs in 29 balls. At the same time, their captain, Shubman Gill, smacked a decent knock of 56 runs in 71 balls, scoring three boundaries and a couple of sixes at a strike rate of nearly 80.

Later, Virat Kohli dashed a fine knock of 93 runs in 91 balls at a strike rate of 102.20, thanks to eight boundaries and one six, while Shreyas Iyer also recorded a fine knock of 49 runs in 47 balls, thanks to four boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 104.26.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul’s undefeated 29 runs in 21 balls with two boundaries and one six, along with Harshit Rana’s special knock of 29 runs in 23 balls, completed the successful chase of India by four wickets in 49 overs to take the lead by a 1-0 margin.
Brief Score: India 306/6 (Virat Kohli 93, Shubman Gill 56, Kyle Jamieson 4/41) beat New Zealand 300/8 (Dayle Mitchell 84, Henry Nicholas 62, Mohammad Siraj 2/40) by 4 wickets.
