Cooper Connolly takes on Rashid Khan with stunning power-hitting

The left-hand all-rounder made a stunning debut in IPL 2026 for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Mullanpur. Batting at No. 3, Connolly immediately made an impact with his aggressive stroke play.

He stitched a fine partnership with Prabhsimran Singh in the powerplay, taking on the Gujarat pacers with ease. When the Titans turned to their spinners, Rashid Khan bowled a quiet first over, giving Connolly the perfect opportunity to settle in.

In the eighth over, Connolly faced a slower delivery from Rashid and timed it perfectly, sending the ball soaring over midwicket for a massive 103-metre six. This shot announced his arrival in the IPL and showcased his incredible power-hitting ability.

Connolly’s innings was marked by confidence and composure. Even after Punjab Kings lost Priyansh Arya early in the chase, he remained unshaken, striking regular boundaries and keeping the scoreboard ticking.

When Gujarat returned to spin to break the partnership, Connolly kept both Rashid Khan and Washington Sundar under pressure. His calm and measured batting made a difficult chase seem achievable.

Even as Punjab Kings suffered a collapse from 102/2 to 118/6, Connolly held his nerve. He reached his half-century off just 35 balls, proving that he could handle pressure and guide his team in a tricky situation. Connolly’s debut performance will be remembered for his power-hitting, composure, and the confidence he brought to the crease, making him a player to watch in this IPL season.

GT suffer setback as PBKS bowlers dominate the early phase

Punjab Kings’ bowlers put the Gujarat Titans under pressure from the start of the innings. Early breakthroughs in the power play saw the Titans lose key wickets.

Right-arm pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak recorded the best figures with 4-0-34-3, while leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finished with 4-0-28-2, maintaining the second-best economy. Tall left-arm pacer Marco Jansen bowled tightly for 4-0-20-1.

The disciplined bowling and smart field placements kept the Gujarat batsmen on the back foot, preventing them from building partnerships and giving PBKS a strong advantage early in the match.
