Rohit SharnaIndia’s ODI opening batter, was present at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai to enjoy the final of the Women’s World Cup 2025 between India and South Africa. After the catch of Harmanpreet Kaur to dismiss the last batter of the South Africa side, Rohit was seen to bust out in emotion.

Indian women made it into the final of the Women’s World Cup twice before, in 2005 and 2017, but they faced defeats in both games against Australia and England, respectively. But on the third occasion, they finally broke the jinx and got the better of the Rainbow Nation to claim the title.

In the final of the World Cup, India’s opening partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Varma put up a fine stand of 104 runs. The former dashed 45 runs in 58 balls at a strike rate of 77.59 while Varma clubbed a fine knock of 87 runs in 78 balls at a strike rate of 111.54, smashing seven boundaries and two over boundaries.

In the middle order of the Indian side, Deepti Sharma smashed a fine knock of 58 runs at a run-a-ball with the help of three boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 100. The wicket-keeper batter of the Blue Brigade, Richa Ghosh, pushed them near the 300-run mark as she nailed 34 runs in 24 balls at a strike rate of 141.67, riding on three boundaries and two sixes.

For the Proteas, their captain, Laura Wolvaardt, was the lone standout performer in the chase as he pocketed a fine knock of 101 runs in 98 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 103.96. Annerie Dercksen also drilled 35 runs, but none of them were enough to get a smile on their face.

Deepti Sharma picked up five wickets in the second innings of 39 runs in 9.3 overs, while Varma changed the course of the game with a fine spell of 2/36 in five overs.
