Coming into the fifth day of the fifth Test of the five-match Test series between England and India at the Kennington Oval, the pressure was incredible on the tourists and the management. A defeat would have seen them lose the series by a margin of 3-1, including their last two series defeats in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and New Zealand at home.

However, the Blue Brigade displayed incredible skill in fighting back in the final hour of the seven-week period as Mohammed Siraj’s five-wicket haul pushed to their narrowest victory in the longest format by six runs. A day later, the Delhi assembly reacted to the victory, which saw the Shubman Gill-led side draw the series 2-2, which no one had hardly predicted two months ago.

India has gained the victory to equal the series. And on foreign soil, India’s performance deserves a lot of credit. We will congratulate them by smashing the bench. The speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, expressed that the video has gone viral on social media platforms.

Losing their fifth toss of the trip, the Shubman Gill-led side was forced to bat first on a green surface as they put 224 runs on the board thanks to the 57-run knock from Karun Nair. At 92/0 for the opening stand of the England team, it looked slim for the visitors to make a strong comeback in the game.

But Siraj and Prasidh Krishna showed their class and kept picking wickets at regular intervals to bundle out the hosts for 247. Yashasvi Jaiswal celebrated his second century of the tour while Washington Sundar’s 53 runs in 46 balls helped them set a huge target.

When Siraj dropped the catch, followed by twin centuries from Harry Brook and Joe Root, the game was only a matter of time before ending in the home side’s court. But the pacers didn’t drop their shoulders as Siraj’s five wickets in the second innings pulled them over the line by six runs.
