The former England wicket-keeper batter, Dinesh Karthik, has dissected India’s 22-run defeat during the third Test of the five-match series against India at Lord’s as they went 2-1 down in the series to the fourth encounter in Manchester. The issue for them, according to Karthik, was letting the game drift from strong positions on multiple occasions.

‘If we are going to judge the match looking at what happened today, then you are looking at the wrong side. We have to look at 376/6 at some time to 387 all out, a shot of mini collapse. The catch that KL Rahul dropped of Jamie Smith, and he was on five at that time.Dinesh Karthik expressed after the end of the clash on Sky Sports Cricket.

‘The fact that you have given away 53 extras across two innings, how much do those matter to you? These are the conversations you should have, and not the shots you played today. The tailenders gave a fight today. There were moments in the game when you could have been ahead, and India didn’t do it for the third time in the series. The veteran continued to point out the mistakes.

Karthik also reckoned that whenever the visitors used theirbrainslike at Edgbaston, they came out on the right side of the coin. The Chennai-born pointed out that India was on clinical, understanding that the new ball would make batting hard, while once the ball gets soft, it would become the easiest job.

‘But when they really used their brains and stuck there like Edgbaston and dominated there. They had been in some strong positions but let go. England didn’t bat well, according to me, in the third innings as well.He mentioned during the same interaction.

On the third evening session, the tourists had a chance to take a lead of at least 50 runs. But they didn’t. They had a chance to bundle out the home side under 350 in the first innings. They let it go. This week was a lot about the Shubman Gill-led side allowing the game to drift away from them.
