When Shubman Gill became India’s Test captain and got the chance to bat at number three for the Indian side in the longest format, post the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he had several things on his plate, starting from the captaincy and scoring runs to shoulder the responsibility.

Under Gill, India drew the five-match Test series against England by a margin of 2-2 in the United Kingdom, including the six-run victory at the Kennington Oval. Their premier pacer, Mohammed Siraj, shared his bond and friendship with the Punjab-born.

“Shubman and I have been together for a long time, having played for the A-side. We debuted together at the MCG. Then, in the ODI cricket, we topped the chart together. So, the memories have been fabulous. Moreover, he is also the captain of the Gujarat side. Both of us have a good combination. When I get him out, I call him my bunny, and then he would reply with a boundary.Siraj expressed during an exclusive interaction on Revsportz.

Gill finished the Test series as the leading run-getter. The right-handed batter smashed 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40 and a strike rate of nearly 66.57, with the help of four red-ball centuries. India recently announced Gill as their vice-captain for the Asai Cup, which begins on September 10 against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They will also face Pakistan during the second encounter on September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
