After the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Team India is now going through a transition phase, with newly appointed captain Shubman Gill and his deputy Rishabh Pant. Pant's form in the IPL 2025 caused reasonable worries for the Indian cricket fans, but the BCCI selectors showed faith in the keeper-batter and assigned them as the vice captain for the England series.
Throughout the IPL 2025, the fearless batter scored 269 runs in 13 innings for Lucknow Super Giants. But in their last match of the season, Pant scored a century for Lucknow, an unbeaten 118 off 61 balls against RCB. Which definitely helped Pant to gain some confidence that will be needed during the 5-match series against England.

During a practice session with the main squad of team India, the southpaw chose to take the aerial route against Washington Sundar. Pant played a perfectly connected slog sweep against the off-spinner, and the ball went straight in the air to land on the roof of the stadium. The video of the moment went viral between cricket fans quickly.
Despite recent off-form and continuous criticisms, Pant's stats against England are still looking attractive enough to support the swashbuckling batter. The 27-year-old has 556 runs, powered by a couple of centuries in 9 tests in English conditions.
