The left-handed opening batter of the Indian side, Abhishek Sharma, has been the most explosive T20 batter right now, but there is one thing that even his mentor, Yuvraj Singh, the former left-handed all-rounder, could get from Sharma, which is the latter’s cricket bat. Yuvraj has played a key role in guiding Abhishek’s career and recently shared a funny story about the youngster’s attachment to the bat.

Abhishek became the fastest to celebrate 1000 runs in T20I cricket in terms of balls he faced. The Indian southpaw has collected overall 1012 runs in 28 innings at an average of 37.41 and a strike rate of 189.51, thanks to six half-centuries and two centuries at the best score of 135 runs.

“You can take anything from Abhishek, but nobody can take a bat from him. Ye mar jayega, pit jayega, ro dega par apna bat nahi dega- he will fight, even cry, but won’t give his bat away.” Yuvraj expressed during the hilarious interaction, as the video went viral on social media platforms.

In overall T20s, Abhishek has bagged 4511 runs in 154 innings at an average of 32.45 and a strike rate of 168.07, shouldering on 26 half-centuries and seven centuries at the best score of 141 runs. Even in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history, the southpaw has collected 1816 runs in 74 innings at an average of 27.10 and a strike rate of 163.01 with nine fifties and one century.

“Even if he has 10 bats, he’ll still say, I only have two! He has taken so many bats of mine but never parts with his own.” Yuvraj quipped further on the reaction of how Abhishek keeps his bats like guarding one’s treasure.

During the recent five-match T20I series against Australia down under, Abhishek nailed 163 runs in five innings, including the fine knock of 68 runs that he smashed during the second fixture of the series at the Gabba in Brisbane. He will be back at home for the five-match T20I series against South Africa.
