“You just have to back up those words. You are up against the best side in world cricket today, who have won the trophy (WTC). Can't have a better chance of showing your character and winning. If we don't win, at least we fight it out and ensure we don't lose. Yeah, those words are fine, but you need to back it up with performance as well.” Kumble expressed on Star Sports as the video goes viral.

In the first innings of the game, the Proteas posted a massive total of 489 runs on the board with many top-order batters getting starts but not being able to convert them into a big score before Senuran Muthusamy smashed a fine knock of 109 runs in 206 balls, while Marco Jansen contributed with 93 runs in 91 balls.
Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 58 and Washington Sundar’s 48 runs, none of the Indian batters stood in the middle as the home side was bundled out for 201 runs, giving away a lead of 288 runs to the tourists in the first innings.
South Africa, in reply, during their second innings stretched their lead to 448 runs and had nearly ruled their probable defeat result out of the equation. The Temba Bavuma-led side is already leading the two-match series by a 1-0 margin, having earned victory in the opening Kolkata Test.
