It has been a roller-coaster journey for the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, who earned and enjoyed success and failure across formats around the world. It started with the whitewash T20I series victory against Sri Lanka away before they faced defeat in the ODI series.

The biggest punch in his coach's CV came when India lost their first Test series at home against New Zealand to end their unbeaten streak of 13 years in home conditions. It was followed by another 3-1 series defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 as Gambhir looked back at his tenure in the BCCI’s special video.

“As a nation, and we, as individuals, should never celebrate a series loss. Just throw the guys in the deep sea!! As simple as it can get. We are the same with Shubman as well when he was appointed the Test captain. It has been a very transpiring dressing room. It has been a very honest dressing room. And that is something I want the dressing room to be like.Gambhir expressed on the BCCI.

At the end of the horrible Australia trip, India won the home ODI series against England, followed by lifting the Champions Trophy 2025. After the break of the IPL, they returned to international cricket with an inspiring drawn series against England in the longest format.

Post that, India won the Asia Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates, where they got the better of Pakistan thrice, including the final. Even though the Blue Brigade lost the three-match ODI series against Australia, they earned the 2-1 T20I series victory.

“We are still not where we want to be in time for the T20 World Cup. But hopefully, guys know the importance of being fit. So, we still have nearly three months left to be where we want to be.Gambhir reflected on the video, looking ahead to the home T20 World Cup 2026, which is expected to begin in the second week of February.
