How Grace Harris Was Dismissed Hit-Wicket
Grace Harris’ hit-wicket came in the 17th over. At that time, Australia's women's national cricket team were 130/6 in the chase of 177 runs. They still needed 47 runs to win against India women's national cricket team.
Harris came to the pitch in the 16th over after Ash Gardner was dismissed. She scored a single from her first ball. In the 17th over, Indian bowler Sree Charani bowled yorker-length balls to control the run rate.
The Australian batter tried a slog sweep shot and went deep in the crease. But she placed her back leg wrongly and touched the stumps, which removed the bails and caused a hit-wicket dismissal.
Partnership Helped India Win
India won the toss and chose to bat first. They lost opener Shafali Verma early. After that, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues built a strong partnership.
Mandhana scored 82 runs from 55 balls. Rodrigues scored 59 runs. Both players made a 121-run partnership and helped India reach 176/6 in 20 overs.
In the chase, Ashleigh Gardner scored 57 runs for Australia. But Australia were stopped at 159/9 in 20 overs.
For India, Shreyanka Patil took 3 wickets for 22 runs, Arundhati Reddy took 2 wickets for 35 runs, and another bowler took 3 wickets for 32 runs. India won the match by 17 runs and won the T20I series 2-1.
Notably, Grace Harris has shown good all-round performance in international cricket. In Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs), she scored 16 runs in 7 innings with an average of 2.66. In Women’s T20Is (WT20Is), Harris has been stronger with the bat, scoring 578 runs in 36 innings at an average of 21.40 and a strike rate of 154.95, including one half-century. In bowling, she has taken 12 wickets in WODIs with a bowling average of 20.33 and 9 wickets in WT20Is with an average of 19.77, showing her usefulness as a part-time but effective bowler. Overall, Harris contributes as a hard-hitting batter and a handy bowler for the Australia women's national cricket team.
