When India faced three consecutive defeats against South Africa, Australia, and England in the group stage of the Women’s World Cup 2025, they were in danger of not qualifying for the semifinal. However, their special win over New Zealand at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai took them to the semifinal.

India’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, revealed that they had a strong discussion after the heartbreaking defeat against England in the run chase. They discussed staying composed and regrouping after the win. In the semifinal, Jemimah Rodrigues smashed a fine 127* in 134 balls while Kaur clubbed 89 runs in 88 balls.

“I didn't speak a word after that match (vs England) because he was the one speaking — 'You should’ve saved the match' (mimicking Muzumdar). Everybody took that in good spirit. We all believe whatever Sir says because he always speaks from the heart. After that, I spoke to all the players because I wanted to see what they were feeling, as the coach is expecting the right things from us.Kaur expressed on Star Sports.

In the semifinal, Australia got bundled out for 338 runs in 49.5 overs after their left-handed opening batter, Phoebe Litchfield, nailed 119 runs in 93 balls with the help of 17 boundaries and three sixes, while Ashleigh Gardner smacked 63 runs in 45 balls at a strike rate of 140.

That’s also what the entire country expects from us. Everybody took it positively, and today (vs Australia) you can see that in the way everyone played.Kaur revealed in the same interaction before their head coach, Amol Muzumdar, burst into the interaction.

“We just had a little bit of a chat with the players. I did say a few things in the dressing room. But it was in good spirits.Muzumdar shed light. With the win, India marched into their third Women’s World Cup final after 2005 and 2017 and will face South Africa at the same venue on November 02 in Navi Mumbai.
