Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali took a career-best six-wicket haul, including a sensational hat-trick, to propel Birmingham Bears to a thumping 58-run victory over Derbyshire Falcons in the Vitality Blast 2025 at Edgbaston on Sunday. It was the first successive home win for the Bears and a much-needed momentum in the tournament.

Batting first, Birmingham posted a formidable total of 199/6, thanks largely to a solid performance from the opening pair of Tom Latham and Alex Davies. The two combined for a 79-run opening partnership, with Latham scoring a serenely composed 58 off 42 deliveries and Davies hitting 49 off merely 29. Although Derbyshire were able to put some pressure on in the latter overs—thanks to Pat Brown's 3/40—the target was out of reach.

Derbyshire’s chase got off to a disastrous start as they crumbled to 29/4 within four overs. Although Ross Whiteley (50 off 37) and Wayne Madsen (46 off 32) showed some resistance in the middle overs, the early damage was too severe to overcome. The Falcons were bowled out for 141 in 19.1 overs, continuing their winless run in the competition.

Hasan Ali’s Hat-trick Headlines One-sided Clash

Hasan Ali was unstoppable with the ball, ending with incredible figures of 6/23. Having made inroads early on, he came back in the death overs to decimate the lower order. His hat trick arrived in dramatic circumstances—getting rid of Whiteley (caught long-off), Alex Thomson (caught mid-on), and Ben Aitchison (bowled) in three consecutive balls.

George Garton also played a big role, taking five catches to share the T20 world record for the most by a non-wicketkeeper in an innings. He also chipped in with the bat, blasting 12 runs from the last three deliveries he faced. Derbyshire were without veteran Samit Patel through injury and fielded a weakened side, but the Bears took full advantage to complete their winning sequence.
