Watch: “I probably don’t…”- Ash Gardner admits weakness against Harmanpreet Kaur in WPL 2026
The captain of the Gujarat Giants from the 2026 season of the Women's Premier League (WPL), Ashleigh Gardner, has admitted the weakness against the Mumbai Indians captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, in Navi Mumbai clash.

The star all-rounder from Australia and the captain of the Gujarat Titans of the 2026 season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Ashleigh Gardner, admits that she probably would not match up well enough against India and the Mumbai Indians captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, as they faced each other during the clash in Navi Mumbai.
Harmanpreet Kaur delivered a masterclass batting and drilled an unbeaten knock of 71 runs to guide MI to a seven-wicket victory over the Ginats, which became the highest successful chase in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) history. Chasing 193, the right-handed batter nailed a 33-ball fifty, her 10th in the league, and crossed the 1000 runs, becoming the first Indian to reach the milestone in the tournament.

“Looking at the stats, I have not matched up well against Harmanpreet. She has often had the upper hand over my international career. As a skipper, there is always the risk of underutilizing yourself.” Gardner expressed her interaction in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“I had around eight bowling options, and at the time, I felt there were better match-ups than me. Hindsight is always 20/20; maybe I was the better choice. But standing here after a loss, I can say if we had won, I would be praised for making the right bowling calls.” Gardner mentioned at the end of the encounter.
In reply, the Mumbai Indians completed the chase by 193 runs in 19.2 overs by seven wickets as their captain got full support from 38 runs in 23 balls with the help of six boundaries, while Amanjot Kaur nailed a dashing knock of 40 runs in 26 balls, with the help of seven boundaries.
