[WATCH]: 'I Was Having My Dinner....' - Shubman Gill trolls BCCI after double ton in 2nd Test
Shubman Gill shared a light-hearted moment with the BCCI video team after his double century, before getting emotional hearing heartfelt messages from his parents.

Shubman Gill was in a playful mood after his historic double century against England, taking a cheeky dig at the BCCI video team during a post-match interview. Following the end of Day 2 of the second Test at Edgbaston, Gill joked, “I was having my dinner, but in the middle of my dinner you guys stopped me,” after being interrupted for a video segment. The light-hearted moment came before an emotional surprise from the BCCI — recorded messages from his parents.
In a video shared on BCCI’s social media, Gill was visibly moved upon hearing heartfelt voice notes from his parents after his record-breaking 269-run knock. The 25-year-old became the first Indian captain to score a double century in England and the first Indian to hit a double ton in Tests outside Asia since Virat Kohli’s 200 in 2016. He also surpassed Kohli’s 254* to register the highest individual score by an Indian Test captain and broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record (241*) for the highest score by an Indian in Tests outside Asia.
Gill shared how much the praise from his father meant to him. “Means a lot coming from him,” Gill said. “Growing up, I played all of my cricket for my dad. It was because of him I started playing cricket. He and my best friend, whom I practiced with, are the only two people I care about and listen to when it comes to cricket. But he also said, I missed my triple century.”
Emotional Messages from Home After a Historic Knock
Gill's father, Lakhwinder Singh, praised his son and said the innings took him back to Shubman’s younger days. “Shubman, beta, well played. Today, watching your batting brought great joy and peace to my heart. It felt just like when you used to play U16 and U19. I felt very proud,” he said in his message.
