Ahead of India’s opening encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the United States of America (USA) in their title defense at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Rohit Sharma, under whom India won the title in the 2024 season, beating South Africa in the final, carried the trophy with the ICC chairman, Jay Shah, ahead of the national anthem.

The ICC has shared a video of Rohit Sharma’s journey for the entire game, which reflected on the former captain, who looked at his teammates and revealed that it had been a weird feeling from the dressing room to be out of that side. He took retirement from the T20I after the last World Cup.

“It feels so weird here to there. It’s always nice to be here. They love their cricket here. Mumbai and the energy, I mean, it’s never going to be disappointing. Class!! Good luck, everyone. In the midst of everything, you sometimes don’t understand that you should also enjoy the moment. Everyone enjoys every game as well. This moment will never come back.” Rohit expressed in that video.

India batted first in that clash and posted a decent score of 161 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with their captain, Suryakumar Yadav, notching up 84 runs in 49 balls at a strike rate of 171.43, thanks to 10 boundaries and four sixes.

“Playing in India is never easy. Looking forward to seeing all the batters and the bowlers as well. These will be something for the bowlers, which is what the Wankhede has. That’s a very emotional feeling because I am still not used to it being on this side of the field, rather than being on that side of the field. I feel there were no nerves in my body. Wonderful experience of standing there and singing the national anthem.” Rohit addressed.

The USA got restricted to 132/8 in their allotted 20 overs, despite three of their batters crossing the 30-run mark in the middle order. Mohammad Siraj bowled beautifully for his 3/29 in four overs.
