The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) didn’t make a strong start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign with three successive defeats against the Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as they found themselves at the bottom of the points table.

In those three encounters, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side missed their former five-title-winning captain, MS Dhoni, who has been out of action with a knee injury that he picked during the practice session and will need time to return to the field for the yellow army.

Amidst the challenging start to the event, the CSK fans have been treated to a rare behind-the-scenes look at their beloved Thala. Dhoni featured in a vlog, which was posted by their young opening batter, Ayush Mhatre, offering a positive update on his presence within the squad.

The video, which went viral on social media in a flash, showed the 44-year-old being engaged with the 18-year-old Mhatre and other junior members of the squad during a shoot. It captures the light-hearted side of the CSK camp as Dhoni is seen teasing the Mumbai-born in the presence of Gaikwad.

“Here you go, everyone is here.”- “What are you doing, buddy? Ohh (when he got to know about Mhatre shooting a video). Good. We are seen here.” “Rutu Da is here, and just like, I am leading the vlog, and their shoot continues to happen. My shoot is done. See you later. This vlog ends.”

MS Dhoni’s injury to take more time for recovery in IPL 2026

The CEO of the Super Kings franchise, Kasi Vishwanathan, revealed that Dhoni’s injury had been a little severe and would need time for him to get back to full recovery. The former captain is expected to be out of action for a few more games. But the franchise has high hopes of bringing back Dewald Brevis into the side for their next game against the Delhi Capitals.

“Hope Brevis comes back in the next game.” The CSK head coach, Stephen Fleming, expressed this during the game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
