Interestingly, the story behind the flashpoint later added a humorous twist. Ruturaj Gaikwad revealed that his own remarks played a role in triggering the exchange. After Overton was hit for a boundary, Gaikwad jokingly told him he was “bowling very badly” and should “go home,” which seemingly fired up the English all-rounder. This led to Overton responding aggressively in the next moments, ultimately sparking the verbal clash with Tilak Varma.

“No, no, no. Maybe you should ask Rutu because he was the one causing it. On the previous ball...” said Overton.

"Tilak hit him for four, so I told him, ‘You are bowling very badly. You shouldn’t be here, you should go home.’ That made him angry, and he said a few good words to Tilak, and then they started fighting. As he is from England, he says a lot of good words," said Ruturaj.
