India did not get a great start with the bat, losing two wickets for eight runs in their first two overs in the chase of 209 runs during the second T20 of the five-match series against New Zealand in Raipur, as both the batters were their opening batter, Sanju Samson, and most importantly, inform Abhishek Sharma, who ended up getting a golden duck.

But they got their momentum back in the third over as the first ball from Zakary Foulkes, being a no-ball, was thumped over the covers region, but a boundary by Ishaan Kishan, who was needed to get some runs under his belt on his return to the national side’s T20 set-up ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

After two wide deliveries on successive occasions, the left-handed batter smashed the bowler over long-off for another shot before dragging the short ball towards the deep midwicket fence. Kishan ended with the massive 6 that went straight over the fine Lake region as he collected 24 runs from that over.

The exhibition continued as he smashed the opponent captain, Mitchell Santner, for three successive boundaries before sweeping Matt Henry over deep backward square leg for a towering six. With a boundary chipped over the fielder at wide mid-off, the southpaw celebrated his fifty inside the power play in just 21 deliveries of the innings as India finished the first six overs with 75 runs on the board.

Earlier in the innings, New Zealand posted 208 runs for six wickets in 20 overs as Rachin Ravindra clubbed 44 runs in just 26 balls, while their leader remained unbeaten on 47 runs in just 27 balls, scoring six boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 174.07.

India would be pretty happy with Ishan's excellent form heading into the T20 World Cup 2026, where they begin their campaign against the United States of America on February 07 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Brief Scores: India 128/2 (Ishan Kishan 76*, Jacob Duffy 1/12) vs New Zealand 208/6 (Mitchell Santner 47*, Kuldeep Yadav 2/35).
