James Anderson retired from Test cricket in 2024, but he has not yet retired from domestic cricket. He has shown interest in playing T20s and is also taking part in the County Championship 2025. Anderson played his first match of the season for Lancashire against Derbyshire and took a wicket. He dismissed Caleb Jewell with a brilliant delivery. Anderson came around the stumps and made the ball seam just enough to hit the stumps.

Fans were happy to see him back in action at the age of 42, and the video of the dismissal quickly went viral on social media. Anderson is currently playing in whites for Lancashire in the County Championship Division Two match at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield. The experienced pacer bowled a classic in-swinging delivery with the new Dukes ball, which completely beat Derbyshire's Caleb Jewell and knocked over his stumps. This kind of delivery has even troubled cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar in the past.

Lancashire praised Anderson’s performance in a post on social media platform X. The post, shared during the first session of Day Two after Lancashire had scored a solid 367 in their first innings, read: “Pretty comprehensively bowled Admin would say, @jimmy9 on the march early on Day Two at Chesterfield.”

42-year-old Pacer has continued his good form in the new County season after retiring from Test cricket last year. In the match against Derbyshire, he took two important wickets. First, he trapped Mitchell Wagstaff lbw. Then, he bowled a smart inswinger to Caleb Jewell. Jewell thought the ball would go straight and move away from the stumps, so he left it. But the ball came in sharply and hit his off stump. This delivery shows that Anderson still has great skill even after retirement.

In the Division Two match against Derbyshire, Lancashire batted first and scored 367 runs in their first innings. James Anderson is playing for Lancashire as captain and is making a strong return to the game. Before this match, he had already taken 1134 wickets in 300 first-class matches for Lancashire. He is also playing in the Vitality Blast Men’s T20 Series 2025. In that tournament, he has taken 10 wickets so far, and his team is in second place on the points table.
