Sachin Tendulkar is an inspiration to many players of different ages and decades, and Joe Root, despite chasing the Mumbai-born in the all-time list of most runs, is not a different one. He went past several greats of the game during the third day of the fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester and now has no Tendulkar to chase.

Root, during a recent interaction on Sony Sports Network, expressed that it was an incredible experience to play against the veteran, given the amount of pressure he used to shoulder. Root stated that as a kid, he wanted to emulate the same style of batting in those gone days.

‘’Yeah, I mean, he is one of the greats the game has ever seen. All the things that he has managed to achieve with the pressures he had to shoulder and burden are incredible. That’s someone again that you watched him play as a young kid and you wanted to copy and emulate, and then to get the opportunity and to play against him as well (was surreal).Root expressed during a recent interaction.

Root recalled the opening game of the 2012 series in India when Cheteshwar Pujara got a double century, and the crowd cheered the loudest when he got out in the next game because Tendulkar walked out in the middle.

“I mean, he made Test debut before I was born, and then you find yourself playing in a Test match, against him, and it was an incredible experience to go to India. You watch Pujara just off the camera here. Unfortunately, he got 200 in the first game. In the second game, he gets out and the whole crowd cheers, because Sachin was coming to bat. It was bizarre to witness, but it shows the greatness of the man and the legend he is.The Yorkshire batter added.

In the all-time list, Tendulkar stays at the top with 15921 runs in 329 innings at an average of 53.78, thanks to 51 centuries and 68 half-centuries, while Root has accumulated 13409 runs at 51.17 with 38 centuries and 66 fifties.
