Away from the attention of the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, the opening batter, KL Rahul, who has returned for the Karnataka side in the quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy 2025/26, against Mumbai at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai, has notched up a fine century in the fourth innings of their chase against the hosts.

In the fourth game of the encounter, KL Rahul cut Tanush Kotian for a boundary to complete his 24th century in 206 innings of first-class cricket. He barely celebrated the milestone and raised his bat only briefly before getting back to the job.

Rahul has composed his presence with some vital knocks since returning to the Karnataka side late in the group-stage against Punjab at the IS Bindra International Stadium in Mohali, where he notched up a fine half-century. Rahul’s presence in the top order, along with Devdutt Padikkal and Mayank Agarwal, has been a blessing for the domestic side.

Rahul was recently part of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand at home, where he smashed a fine unbeaten century of 112 runs during the second encounter at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. He ended the series with 142 runs in three innings at an average of 142. His focus after the Ranji season will be on the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he is a part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise.

Rahul was decent with the bat during India’s two-match Test series against South Africa, where most of their batters struggled against the spinners. They didn’t have an answer to the Protea spinner, Simon Harmer, who went through the home batting department for both games in Kolkata and Guwahati.

Rahul ended his knock against Mumbai for 130 runs in 182 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and one six. He was well supported by Smaran Ravichandran, who also notched up a half-century, in the fourth innings of the clash. Karnataka was close to completing their chase of 325 runs.

Brief Scores: Karnataka 173 (Mayank Agarwal 92, Tushar Despande 4/33) & 266/4 (KL Rahul 130, Shardul Thakur 2/55) vs Mumbai 120 (Herwadkar 60, Prasidh Krishna 3/21) & 377 (Akash Anand 70, Shikhar Shetty 3/45)
