India’s entire ODI squad, including captain Shubman Gill, veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and head coach Gautam Gambhir, has reached Perth on the morning of October 16 for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. They had the first practice session in the evening, where the focus was on the two former captains.

It started with five players, including Rohit, Kohli, and KL Rahul. There were Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh in the optional session. Rohit faced these two Indian bowlers and the net bowlers provided by the Western Australians. The fans kept chanting their names as they kept batting for 20 minutes against the pacers.

After the end of the session, Kohli had an animated but smiley chat with Rana before Rohit joined him in the huddle. The Nagpur-born then met Gambhir and discussed for around half an hour. Apart from this, Rohit was not in a surreal form at the start of the session before he found fluency towards the end of the session.

The issue for them was to understand the bounce and seam movement off the surface against the throwdown. Kohli went towards the fans, clicked a few photos, and gave them autographs. Rohit repeated the same thing before Rana and Arshdeep Singh joined the nets for batting. The latter went through nearly 40 minutes of the session with the bat. Rana was a little less than him.

Rahul’s case in the entire session was a bit surprising. He came with his kitbag, kept it on the ground, and then had a brief discussion with Gambhir before leaving the stadium. He perhaps had some issue or was tired, perhaps after a long flight from Delhi to Perth. It could be due to fatigue from having played two Tests in two weeks.

India’s next net session will be tomorrow in the afternoon local time, which will be in the morning. The opening game will be played on October 19 in Perth before the action moves to Adelaide and Sydney in the second half of the month.
