The Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, ahead of India’s second encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, has reflected on the leadership of their captain, Suryakumar Yadav. He revealed how the latter had made his life a lot easier, thanks to some extraordinary skills.

Gautam Gambhir, during an interview on Star Sports, reckoned that Surya had been fantastic, not only being one of the best batters of the side in the shortest format of the game, but also the way he had led the side after the retirement of both veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

“Surya has made my life a lot easier in this format. I think, he is a phenomenal leader of men, not only by what he does on the cricket field, not by how type a batter he is and the shots that he has in this format- those are for the people who look from outside, but the way he relates to players, the way he talks to players, and the way he spends time with players, how much he is relaxed (is excellent).Gambhir expressed on Star Sports.

Against the United States of America in their T20 WC opener at the Wankhede Stadium, India were under pressure at 77/6 when Sky played a fabulous knock of 84* runs at a strike rate of over 170.

“Sometimes, as a coach, you can think about a lot of other things because Sky keeps the atmosphere very calm, and that’s exactly what any coach can dream of. For me, I think, Surya-the players- can be kept aside, but Surya- the leader- has ticked a lot of boxes. He is a phenomenal leader, and that has made my life a lot easier.Gambhir noted in the same interview.
