India had a cakewalk in the decider of the three-match ODI series against South Africa, clinching it 2-1, thanks to an unbeaten century from their opening batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal. In contrast, the two veteran batters of the top three, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, clubbed their respective fifties to complete the nine-wicket victory.

Once they returned to the hotel, Rohit’s hilarious reaction to the request to eat a small piece of cake went viral on the social media platform. First, it was Kohli, who was about to cut the cake, before he handed the knife to Jaiswal for his maiden ODI century. The opening batter offered cake to Rohit Sharma, who refused outright.

“Eat the cake.” Said Kohli when Jaiswal caught Rohit for taking a bite. But the Nagpur-born replied, “No, I will get fat.” Quite notably, the Mumbai batter has amazed everyone with his transformation before his assignment against Australia in the previous three-match away ODI series.

Rohit has reduced nearly 10 kgs and smashed a fine unbeaten century during the third ODI of the three-match series down under at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). He flexed his muscle against the Proteas with a fifty in the opening clash in Ranchi and followed it up with another half-century in the third game in Visakhapatnam.

Rohit also became the fourth Indian batter to cross the 20000 mark in international cricket and posted a fine 155-run opening partnership in their 271-run chase with Jaiswal in the decider against the Rainbow Nation. He is now expected to return to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025/26 knockout clashes for Mumbai, which begins next week.

Kohli was also in fabulous touch with 302 runs in the three innings against South Africa at an average of 151 with the help of two centuries and one unbeaten fifty. He is also anticipated to be back in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025/26 for Delhi heading into the home series against New Zealand next year.
