When India lost their seventh wicket just 40 minutes into the morning session of the fifth day of the third Test between England and India at Lord’s, many thought that the game could be over in just an hour. But the Indian lower order hung around in the middle, especially in the presence of Ravindra Jadeja, who was superbly confident after three successive fifties of the trip.

Nitish Reddy and Jadeja weathered the storm till lunch before the former got an outside edge onto the stumps. The growing hope suddenly went under the soil. But Jasprit Bumrah, at number 10, showed better defense than many top-order batters. But the Ahmedabad-born couldn’t handle the pressure and found the fielder after looking to pull the short ball.

However, the biggest hilarious moment of the evening came when Jadeja, just 10 minutes before the end of the extended Tea session, decided to rush into the dressing room for some odd reason. Many fans, present on the ground, couldn’t understand the situation until the commentators made the point as their camera kept following him.

“There you go. Now, you can go left in a minute and down some stairs, or you can go up, and he has gone up. Nervous work for Ravi Jadeja. Our director will follow him into the loo.”- Nasser Hussain, who was in the commentary box, made the point. It could be because the second session was getting extended after the Blue Brigade found themselves nine down.

Along with Bumrah, Jadeja was excellent with the approach. He kept on playing the big shots after the lunch break as he thumped Chris Woakes over the stands for a six before nailing the boundary against Ben Stokes. The southpaw also kept taking the customary singles on the last ball of the over. Bumrah couldn’t survive anymore as the focus shifted to the number 11.

Mohammed Siraj also gave Jadeja a good hand to carry them to the Tea break. With a lucky boundary over the slip corridor, he celebrated a four to reach his fourth consecutive half-century of the trip.
