Rohit Sharma recalls turnaround from 2023 ODI World Cup

The former Indian captain and the current opening batter of the side, Rohit Sharma, recently appeared in the Masters Gurgaon Academy and recalled how he recovered mentally from the defeat of the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia to lead the side to the T20 World Cup 2024 success.

Rohit Sharma addressed how he was completely distraught and had no energy left in his body. This led him to take a couple of months to get back to being himself. The Nagpur-born also shed light on how he kept reminding him of how much he truly loved the game.

“Everyone was very disappointed, and we could not believe what happened. Personally, it was a very tough time because I had put everything into the World Cup since I took over as the captain. I was completely distraught, and there was no energy left in my body. It took me a couple of months to get back to being myself.Rohit expressed in the conference.

Rohit Sharma reveals how he recovers mentally from ODI World Cup 2023 defeat

Rohit, after losing the ODI World Cup 2023, went on to win the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Barbados before claiming the Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

It was a tough pill to swallow. I had to put all my focus on something that was coming up - the 2024 World Cup. At one point, I felt like I didn't want to play this sport anymore because it had taken everything out of me. It took some time, and I kept reminding myself that this is something I truly love, that it was right in front of me.The veteran shed light.

“I couldn't let it go so easily. It took a lot of energy and calculation to get back on the field and start moving again. It took me a while to get back, because I kept reminding myself that this is the game I loved and dreamt of. I can’t let this go so easily,Rohit Sharma informed in the conference.
