Baartman Reflects on His Brilliant Performance
Paarl Royals chased down the target of 128 runs in just 15.1 overs, winning the match by six wickets. Ottneil Baartman was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance. After the game, he spoke about his spell.
“Just tried to hit the wickets hard. There was a little bounce, and I tried to use the conditions. I have been playing cricket for a while now, and someone needs to step up—that’s what happened today. Raza is a world-class bowler, cool and calm, and knows his game. On the hat-trick, I was thinking about it. It’s a good bowling surface. There were runs if the batters batted sensibly, but if you bowl a good length, wickets were available,” Baartman said during the post-match presentation.

Who Is Ottneil Baartman?
Baartman comes from Oudtshoorn, a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. His mother wanted him to focus on studies, but his love for cricket made him follow the sport.
He moved to Bloemfontein and played three years with the Knights. However, the team did not offer him a new contract, so he joined the Dolphins for the next domestic season.
At the Dolphins, Baartman took 11 wickets in the CSA Provincial T20 Cup. In the CSA 2022-23 T20 Challenge, he took 15 wickets at an average of 14.40, becoming the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament.
His strong domestic performance earned him a call-up to the South Africa national team. He made his Test debut in 2021 in a two-Test series against Pakistan.
In a recent T20I series against India, Baartman took four wickets in one match, becoming the second Proteas bowler to take four wickets against India in T20I cricket. He finished with figures of 4/24 as South Africa easily won the second T20I in Mullanpur.
