The T20 Asia Cup defending champions Sri Lanka have got a perfect start in the first Super Fours match of the Asia Cup 2025 against Bangladesh, while the opener Pathum Nissanka provided a powerful start with his opening partner Kusal Mendis.

On Saturday (September 20), Bangladesh chose to field first after winning the toss against Sri Lanka at Dubai (DICS), as Sri Lanka announced the unchanged squad with the presence of Dunith Wellalage. As a tribute to Dunith Wellalage's late father, Sri Lankan cricketers have worn the black armbands in the Super Fours match against Bangladesh.

Pathum Nissanka thrashed Shoriful Islam with three consecutive fours

Sri Lanka got a perfect start as they scored 28/0 at the end of three overs, where Pathum Nissanka smashed three consecutive fours in the final moment of the third over. While the left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam made a comeback into the squad for the game, who conceded eight runs in the first over of the match, he conceded a total of 15 runs in the big third over of the innings.

The boundary storm started with a four over midwicket. It was a back-of-a-length delivery outside off, which Nissanka handled really well for a boundary. The next one was an overpitched outside off delivery, which Nissanka counted as a four after guiding it through the mid-off. Nissanka ended that over with another four, which was another slot outside off, and the Lankan opener smacked that over the mid-off.

Asia Cup 2025: 2nd SL vs BAN match

It is the second Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh meeting in the Asia Cup 2025, as they met in the Group B fixture, were Sri Lanka won by six wickets with 32 balls remaining by successfully chasing the 140-run target.
