India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, met the victorious Indian Women’s Cricket team after their glory in the home World Cup 2025, where they blew away South Africa in the final to lift their maiden title at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai, having failed to achieve the same feat in the last two occasions in 2005 and 2017.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side, at one point of the event, was in danger of getting disqualified ahead of the semifinal. They faced three consecutive defeats against the Proteas, England, and Australia, and needed to win the do-or-die clash against New Zealand, which they successfully did. The Blue Brigade shared a meal with PM Modi.

Rawal picked up the injury during their dead rubber against Bangladesh when she slipped while stopping the ball on the boundary rope. Before that incident, she had already collected 308 runs to be India’s second-highest run-getter of the tournament in six innings at an average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 77.77 with one fifty and one century.

“You have done a great job. In India, cricket is not just a game. In a way, it has become the life of the people of India. If there is good happening in cricket, India feels good, and even if there is a little bit of wrong happening in cricket, the whole of India feels bad.PM Narendra Modi expressed in the meeting.

In the final, Rawal was replaced by Shafali Verma, who smashed a fine knock of 87 runs in 78 balls at a strike rate of 111.54 with the help of seven boundaries and two sixes before picking up the crucial wicket of Sune Luus to break the partnership.
