A funny incident took place on Day 3 (Saturday, August 2) of the fifth and final Test between India and England at The Oval in London. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was momentarily distracted by a supporter sitting behind the sight screen wearing a bright red shirt, which was resolved after the spectator changed to a grey shirt. The distraction had no further delay.

Jadeja, known for his focus and consistency, was well on the way to another solid innings, scoring 53 runs off 77 balls with five boundaries. This knock pushed his series tally to an impressive 516 runs from 10 innings, which includes one century and five fifties.
His contributions have been pivotal in India’s campaign in this high-stakes series finale.

The incident occurred during the final session of play when Jadeja, visibly distracted, brought it to the attention of on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena. While the spectator was initially asked to shift seats, a ground staff member instead handed him a grey Surrey shirt.
The fan obliged and changed on the spot, receiving a thumbs-up from Jadeja, who then promptly smashed Jamie Overton for a boundary. The lighthearted exchange was captured on camera and quickly went viral.

India dominate Day 3 as England face tough chase

Sony Sports Network shared the clip on Instagram, captioning it: “Red shirt, but total green flag.” India ended Day 3 in a strong position after setting England a stiff target of 374 runs. The day began with a solid 107-run stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and nightwatchman Akash Deep. Jaiswal notched up a classy 118, while Deep surprised many with a gritty 66 off 94 balls.

India’s batting was further strengthened by half-centuries from Jadeja and Washington Sundar (53 off 46), who struck four sixes. Josh Tongue starred with the ball for England, taking 5 wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton shared five between them. England finished at 50/1, needing 324 more runs. Historically, teams have not chased over 250 at this venue since 2000, but England will draw confidence from successful pursuits earlier in the series and in 2022.
