Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was involved in a dramatic moment on Day 2 of the second Test at Edgbaston, receiving a warning from on-field umpire Sharfuddoula for running too close to the protected area of the pitch. The incident occurred in the 86th over of India’s first innings when Jadeja gently tapped a delivery from Chris Woakes into the off-side. Shubman Gill denied a single, asking Jadeja to return to his crease. Before the next ball was bowled, the umpire walked up to Jadeja and gently cautioned him about staying clear of the danger zone on the pitch.

The protected area in the middle of the pitch is vital for preserving the surface, especially for bowlers later in the match.
Although Jadeja was not penalized, the umpire’s warning was a clear signal for him to be more cautious. Things, however, took a tense turn a few overs later when England skipper Ben Stokes and Woakes expressed their displeasure again. Jadeja, while completing a run, appeared to run too close to the central strip, which led to visible frustration from both England players.

Stokes, clearly agitated, marched to the pitch and stood on the spot where he believed Jadeja had stepped into the danger zone. Jadeja defended himself, pointing out that he stayed to one side without touching the main surface. The moment sparked a heated exchange and added further intensity to an already gripping Test match.
Meanwhile, drama continued as Jadeja was almost trapped LBW in the 88th over by Stokes, but an inside edge saved him and allowed India to grab a single.

Injury Scare and Resilience: Jadeja Carries On Despite Concerns

Following the near-LBW scare, the Indian camp had a brief moment of concern when the team physio came out to check on Jadeja. During the drinks break, he was seen having a brief discussion and was administered a quick checkup. The issue appeared minor, and Jadeja resumed his innings without discomfort.

Earlier in the day, Jadeja had also received medical attention for a finger concern in the very first over. While being treated, he took a sip of pickle juice—commonly used to prevent cramps—before continuing his gritty innings. Having already completed his fifty, Jadeja looked solid on 61*, having shared an unbroken 138* run stand with Gill (136*) as India pushed towards a commanding total in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
