A breathtaking fielding effort stole the spotlight in PSL 2026 as Rilee Rossouw and Hasan Nawaz combined to produce a sensational relay catch, which sent Steven Smith back to the pavilion during the match between Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans.

The moment came at a crucial stage of the chase because Smith built the innings with his half-century performance, which made it seem like he would win the match.

Rilee Rossouw’s presence of mind creates magic on the boundary

The dismissal of Smith occurred during the14th over when he tried to execute a slog sweep shot towards deep midwicket. Rossouw had different plans for the ball which appeared to be heading over the boundary fence.

The Proteas star executed a running catch at the boundary but he discovered his forward speed would take him past the boundary line. He made an instant choice to throw the ball back into the game while he was still in the air. He transformed a probable six into a wicket through his exceptional awareness and athletic abilities which prevented the scoring opportunity from being wasted.

Hasan Nawaz maintained his calm position at the field when he successfully caught the ball after Rossouw gave him assistance. The umpires used the upstairs system to review the decision but the replays showed the exceptional performance of the relay attempt. The Quetta Gladiators gained back control of the game when Smith got dismissed after scoring 53 runs during his important innings.

Multan Sultans dominate despite fielding brilliance

The Multan Sultans lost control of their pursuit after the breathtaking event unfolded on the field. The team achieved a comfortable six-wicket win because Shan Masood and his teammates provided essential support.

Quetta Gladiators scored 166 runs with seven wickets lost because Saud Shakeel and Bevon Jacobs delivered their top batting performance. The Sultans batting squad proved too powerful for them to reach their required total. The Rossouw–Nawaz relay catch has become one of the most memorable plays in PSL 2026 despite their team losing the match. The play demonstrates how modern T20 cricket has reached exceptional standards in fielding performance.
