The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shown a lot of trust in Rishabh Pant, and the board officials are confident about his swashbuckling batting skills in overseas conditions. After the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the board officials had to pick a set of leaders in Shubman Gill and Pant.

Gill has become the successor of the former skipper Rohit Sharma, and the keeper-batter found his role as the deputy of Gill. After the conclusion of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), the entire Team India squad flew to England, and now they are preparing for the five-match Test series against England, starting on June 20, and the official date to conclude the tour is August 4.

Before and during selecting the squad for this series, BCCI selectors may keep the results of the Australia and New Zealand Test series in mind, where, on both occasions, India couldn't justify the status they hold in world cricket now.

Pant have to play a pivotal role in England

The series against England will be significant in multiple ways— leadership, updated playing combination, a new circle of World Test Championship (WTC), and regaining the regime. With multiple targets in front, Pant, at least for now, is an important person in the squad, who showed his guts in Australia during the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

In a video shared on social media, we can see Rishabh hitting the balls in the net session, maintaining his natural batting style, which is considered a positive sign for him and the team because he'll need enough confidence to confront English bowlers in English conditions.
