Rohit Sharma, the Indian ODI captain, has been in the news for the last few days as reports have claimed the possibility that the veteran batter could give an acid test during the upcoming three-match 50-over series against Australia down under. The right-handed batter has already hung up the shoes from the shortest and longest formats.

Roht, who scored 4301 runs at an average of over 40 in 67 Tests, retired in May, just before the away five-match England series, in which Shubman Gill was made the new captain as they ended with a drawn result. He has also stepped away from the ODI series and is looking to get the ODI World Cup for 2027.

Rohit Sharma is reported to feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025/26 as the BCCI wants to see their veteran batter in full rhythm and shape to keep him in contention for the ODI World Cup 2027 selection in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

“It’s something that you prepare for, because the game demands longevity. Especially in the Test format, you have to last for five days. Mentally, it is very challenging, and it is draining as well. But all cricketers have been brought up playing First-Class cricket.” The Mumbai batter shed light during the interaction at the event.

“When we start playing cricket at a competitive level, even in Mumbai, club cricket (matches) go on for two days or three days, so we are built like that, and it starts at a very young age for us. When I started playing the sport, it was all about having fun, enjoying it. As you go on, you start playing age-group cricket and you kind of keep moving forward from that.” Rohit Sharma concluded.
