The current opening batter and the captain of the Indian side in the One-day international, Rohit Sharma, has always been a famous character among the fans around the world. Whenever he is on the road and among the crowd, one can sense the craze of the people and kids for the Nagpur-born, who has always been a renowned player of the Blue Brigade.

Rohit announced his retirement from the shortest format after the T20 World Cup 2024, after earning the title in the United States of America and the West Indies. Later, he hung up his shoes from the longest format during the business end of the IPL 2025, which was a few weeks before the start of the following five-match Test series against England.

A video has gone viral showing Rohit coming out of the car and handling the crazy crowd in the middle of the road. That was such a hard job, given how the crowd was slowly getting incredibly higher, and Rohit’s car was not able to move.

Rohit is the tenth leading run-getter in the 50-over format. The Mumbai batter has overall drilled 11168 runs in 265 innings at an average of 48.76 and a strike rate of nearly 93 with the help of 32 centuries and 58 half-centuries at the best score of 264 runs against Sri Lanka in 2014 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The veteran hasn’t played the 50-over games since the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 and will need to focus on his rhythm and flow with the bat before the away ODI series against Australia. If he does well, he could get an extension from the BCCI for the two successive home series against South Africa and New Zealand.

There were reports of the right-handed batter needing to be part of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 or the India A vs Australia A series to get his flow back. The ODI series will begin on October 19 as Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, starts preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
