Rohit Sharma started from where he left off during the previous three-match ODI series against Australia down under last month. Despite the loss of Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the first ODI of the three-match series at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi, Rohit and Virat Kohli celebrated a fine partnership to give India a flying start with the bat.

Rohit Sharma took on the right-arm off-spinner, Prenelan Subrayen, during the 15th over of the innings. The first ball was slog-swept for a massive six by the right-handed batter as the ball sailed over the mid-wicket region for a massive six. It was his 350th over boundary in the 50-over format.

On the following delivery of the same over, Rohit equaled the record of the most sixes by the former Pakistan captain and all-rounder, Shahid Afridi, of 350 sixes. He picked up the tossed-up delivery over the deep mid-wicket region for the same result as the slog sweep ended into the hands of the spectators.

With a single off the same bowler, Rohit celebrated his 60th half-century in the 50-over format. He later broke Afridi's record when he read the back of a length delivery from Marco Jansen and smashed it over the long leg for a massive six. However, he couldn’t stretch the knock enough and went back to the pavilion before getting to his century.

It was the second delivery of the 22nd over when Rohit was adjudged leg before the stumps against Jansen as the ball stayed low and didn’t raise much to hit the batter, and found himself before the stumps. He went back to the pavilion for 57 runs in 51 balls with the help of five boundaries and three sixes.

It was also the end of he 136-run second wicket partnership for India before Rohit and Virat Kohli in just 109 balls. They took India off to a flying start with nearly 170 runs coming in the 24th over of the innings.
